Broken Light Bulb
Don't you hate it when you break a light bulb when it is still in the socket? There are a couple of simple ways to remove the broken bulb so don't despair.
Over twisting a light bulb into the socket can cause it to get stuck. The expansion of the metal, caused by the heat from the bulb when it is switched on, can really make it impossible to remove for replacement. Often the dead bulb can break in your hand. This is reason enough to always wear gloves when replacing a light bulb.
If the bulb breaks, switch off the electricity at the fuse box. Better to be safe than sorry! Once the electricity has been switched off you can wear a heavy glove, like a leather gardening glove, to grasp the innards of the broken bulb and remove it. Be careful not to squeeze too hard otherwise you may get broken shards of glass penetrating the leather.

Another method is to take a potato and push it into the broken fragments of glass and metal. Then, slowly turn the bulb counter-clockwise to remove it. Again, wear a heavy leather glove.
A third method is to take a pair of vice grips, insert them into the broken base of the bulb and open them wide. Using the back of the opened grips, slowly turn counter clockwise to remove the base. And don't forget that leather glove.
Any one of these three methods should safely remove the broken remnants of the bulb. Don't forget to switch the power back on and remember, don't over tighten when you screw in your new bulb.
