Government Home Improvement Grants

Government Home Improvement Grants

There are so many different government grants and loans available for the homeowner it pays to look around and see what's available. You don't have to be short of money to get a home improvement or repair loan or grant. If you are elderly, disabled, low income, or, have suffered home damage due to a disaster, you may find government grants to help you repair your home. Unlike loans, the grants do not need to be paid back.

If you have purchased a home with a special designation, such as a run-down historical home, it's possible to find low interest government loans, as well as grants, to carry out repairs and restoration work.

There are loans from the City, State, and Federal government so if you don't find what you are looking for at one level of government, check the others. To begin your search start with your local City housing and planning departments. Also, depending upon your situation, check the following :

US Department of Housing and Urban Development
http://grants.gov/
http://www.rurdev.usda.gov.
http://www.homebuyerfunds.com/local_home_repair_grants.htm
http://www.fema.gov/rebuild/index.shtm

All of the loans and grants have their own eligibility criteria. Check the details and see if you qualify.
