Home Repair, Whom Do You Hire
Walk into any Home Depot, Lowes, or large do-it-yourself store and you will see many changes. At one time these stores were geared towards the skilled do-it-yourselfer and the tradesperson. Whether it was driven by the changing economy, or, changing trends, these stores now cater to the unskilled home owner.

No longer does repairing a toilet require a repair person to be hired; attend one of the frequent (and free) D.I.Y. classes and learn how to do it yourself. Many stores even have classes just for women. Do you want to tile your bathroom floor? No problem, attend a floor tiling class and learn how to do it. You will be shown what tools you need, different ways to tackle the job, how to measure the amount of tiles you require, the best type of tile to use for your situation, and, the difference between sanded and unsanded grout and when to use each.
Of great benefit to most people, these stores will even cut tiles for you. They prefer you to take on the challenge of your own simple cuts – but, any tricky angle and they will gladly do it. You can buy a very good diamond tile cutter for less than $50 or, if you only have a small job, rent one from their on-site rental.
So who do you hire? Yourself!

Thanks for the great post. Good advice! I always thinking fixing up your home is a love hate thing. It can be extremely rewarding, but it can be a second job too. This was a great post though.
I stumbled upon this blog like I did yours. Thought it’s humor on home fixing might be enjoyable: http://burisonthecouch.wordpress.com/2009/12/31/our-house/
Thanks for the post! I’d love to see more like it.
